How It Happened
The Quakers started strong, scoring two goals in the first two and half minutes by sophomore Berkey and senior Chung. Dartmouth's Lauren Riley answered back, netting a goal of her own at the 10:30 mark. Penn extended its lead off senior Smith's first of the day to round out the quarter.
Dartmouth opened the second period, scoring at the 12:08 mark from Charlotte Myers. The Quakers dominated between the 8:19 to 7:16 marks, as Block, Brandt, and Greene chalked up three more to the board. In the last two minutes, Catherine Erb and Ryan Hapgood scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead. Welch wrapped up the half, scoring a buzzer-beater with one second left to push Penn ahead 7-4 at the break.
Penn fired off three goals to open the second half from Block, Paige Lipman, and Berkery scoring in the first five minutes. Both teams were fairly quiet until Dartmouth found an opening with 3:35 on the clock. However, the Red and Blue answered with back-to-back scores from Berkery and Welch. Hapgood and Welch trade goals to finish the third with the score at 13-6.
After Dartmouth goalie Gisele Todd left her spot, Brandt took advantage of an empty goal and scored at the start of the fourth. Freshman O'Brien tallied the first of her career to the board at the 10:34 mark, and Smith followed a few minutes later. Brandt slammed one on the net to extend the lead. Myers gave the Big Green one last push, but it would not be enough as the Quakers to a 17-7 victory.
