TROY, Ala. – The University of Pennsylvania baseball team scored first for the third straight game, but ultimately fell 6-1 to No. 21 Troy Sunday afternoon at Riddle-Pace Field.
The loss is Penn's sixth straight, dropping to 0-6 to begin the season. The Trojans improved to 11-1 and won their eighth consecutive game.
Quaker Notemeal
*Penn is winless through its first six games for the first time since 2017. That season, the Quakers went 23-22 overall, 12-8 in Ivy play before falling to Yale in the Ivy League Championship Series.

Gavin Degnan went 1-for-3 and drove in Penn's lone run on a single.

Qwynn Ahearn went 2-for-3, recording the Quakers' only multi-hit game.

Will Tobin was excellent in his start, allowing just one run on two hits over four innings, striking out five batters on 90 pitches.

John Cerwinski (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing the winning run, which was unearned. He walked three and struck out two.
How It Happened
After Penn went down 1-2-3 to begin the game, Tobin settled in quickly, getting the leadoff man to ground out and struck out a pair of batters to get out of the frame.
Collins opened the second inning with a single to left field, advancing to second base on a wild pitch. A Degnan single through the right side brought home Collins to give the Quakers an early 1-0 edge.
Tobin worked out of trouble in the second inning, allowing two hits but left both on to remain in front.
Troy tied the game up in the bottom of the third, scoring on a wild pitch.
The Trojans took their first lead of the contest in the bottom of the fifth inning, walking in a run with the bases jammed after the previous batter reached on a fielding error. The run was unearned against Cerwinski.
Delany pitched a solid sixth, allowing just a two-out double to left center, but struggled with command in the seventh, allowing a two-run home run to right center field to extend Troy's cushion to 4-1.
Baker doubled with two outs in the eighth inning, but was left on to bring the Trojans back up in the bottom of the frame. Facing
Marty Coyne, Troy scored two more runs on a double and single to take a 6-1 lead into the ninth.
Collins, Spaventa, and Pokrovsky were retired 1-2-3 to close the contest as Troy came away with a 6-1 win and a series sweep.
