How It Happened
Jamie Arnold, one of the nation's most dominant pitchers, set the first two Quakers he saw down in order before Collins ripped a single to left field with two outs.
Katz got the Opening Day start for Penn and allowed a base hit against the first hitter he faced. Despite striking out his next batter, he allowed three consecutive singles—the second bringing home two runs—as the Seminoles took a 2-0 lead. FSU ended up batting around and pushing three more runs across to lead 5-0 after one.
Taylor led off the second inning with a double, but Arnold ended up striking out the side in order after that, stranding the runner at second base.
The Seminoles tacked on five runs in the second and led, 10-0 after two.
Penn went down in order to begin the third, while FSU scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the inning to extend its lead to 12-0.
The third five-spot of the contest for Florida State occurred in the fourth inning, capped by a three-run homer for Drew Faurot off
Aidan von Zuben which made it a 17-0 game.
Andrew Miehe relieved von Zuben, retiring the next batter to end the frame.
Miehe continued on in the fifth inning, throwing a scoreless side with a strikeout.
The Quakers got three runners on base via walks to
Gavin Degnan, Baker, and Collins in the top of the sixth.
Penn picked up its first two runs of the game in the sixth inning with Baker scoring on a throwing error and Collins coming across to score on an RBI double for Taylor.
FSU scored seven runs in the sixth, putting the finishing touches on a 24-2 win.
