Henseler Voted Second-Team Academic All-America by CSC

PHILADELPHIA – Putting forth an impressive year both on the field and in the classroom, senior third baseman Wyatt Henseler was named second-team Academic All-America by the College Sports Communicators for the 2024 season.

Henseler becomes just the sixth member of the University of Pennsylvania baseball team to earn the honor and the first since Chris Adams in 2020. The last baseball player to earn second-team laurels was pitcher Ed Haughey in 1995. Henseler is also the second Penn athlete to be named Academic All-America so far in 2023, joining football's Joey Slackman.

Henseler ended his terrific senior year by being named a third-team ABCA All-America at third base after earning first-team All-East Region honors. He became the second Penn student-athlete to earn two All-America nods from the ABCA and the first in 33 years (Craig Connolly '90). In addition, Henseler was also tabbed ECAC Player of the Year.

The unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year and first-team All-Ivy selection for the 2024 campaign, Henseler had yet another historic season in his final year wearing the Red and Blue. The co-captain helped lead the Quakers to a second consecutive Ivy League Tournament title and NCAA Regional appearance and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Ivy League Tournament after hitting .375 with three homers and 10 RBIs in the five-game series.

In 49 games, he led his teammates in batting average (.360), runs (64), hits (72), home runs (22), RBIs (56), total bases (151), slugging percentage (.755), hit-by-pitches (14), and on-base percentage (.465). In Ivy play, the Emmaus, Pa. native led the conference in batting (.438), slugging (.913), OBP (.566), OPS (1.479), runs (31), and home runs (10).

Capping a standout career for the Quakers, Henseler is the program's all-time career record holder in hits (232), runs (64), doubles (50), total bases (452), home runs (54), and RBIs (189). He also holds Ivy records in homers, RBIs and total bases. In addition, Henseler has Penn single-season records in at bats (215, 2023), hits (72, 2022 & 2024), home runs (22, 2024), runs (64, 2024), total bases (151, 2023), and RBIs (63, 2023).

Academically, this is the third honor Henseler has received this postseason, after being named PhillySIDA Academic All-Area Performer of the Year for the second straight year and being tabbed to the CSC Academic All-District team for the 2024 campaign.
