How It Happened (Game 1)
After a scoreless top of the first inning, Penn broke through in the second inning after
Ryan Taylor stole second, advanced to third on an error, and scored to give the Quakers a 1-0 lead.
Cole Zaffiro walked the third batter he faced in the second inning, but retired the side without allowing a run to score.
Zaffiro had strong third and fourth frames to keep the Crimson out of the run column, setting up a productive fifth inning for the Penn offense.
Asa Wilson led off the fifth with a single, advancing to second on a wild pitch and getting to third after
Connor Chavez singled up the middle.
Wyatt Henseler walked to load the bases and Taylor walked in Penn's second run of the afternoon, leading 2-0.
Zaffiro started the seventh before giving up a leadoff home run and a single, followed by a groundout that put runners on the corners to give way to
Carson Ozmer on the mound. A sacrifice bunt negated by an error for Ozmer brought a run across to score, knotting the game at 2-2.
Harvard scored two runs in the eighth inning, via an RBI double down the left-field line and a sacrifice fly to center field to double its lead to 4-2.
The Quakers quickly loaded the bases to open the ninth inning by way of single (
Qwynn Ahearn), walk (Chavez) and hit by pitch (Henseler) with
Jarrett Pokrovsky clearing the bases with two outs to put Penn up 5-4.
With one out in the ninth against Ozmer, he surrendered back-to-back singles which prompted
Eli Trop to relieve him. Callan Fang ripped a single to right field, bringing home an unearned run to tie the game up at 5-5, forcing extras.
Penn recorded two outs with two on to begin the 10th inning. Crimson pitching intentionally walked Henseler to load the bases, bringing up
Davis Baker who came through in the clutch, delivering a two-run single through the left side to take a 7-5 advantage.
Thomas Shurtleff took over for Trop in the bottom of the 10th, retiring the side 1-2-3 to secure the victory.
How It Happened (Game 2)
Chavez led off the game with a bunt single, but left Baker on base to conclude the first.
Ryan Dromboski had a solid first frame of work, recording a 1-2-3 inning with a swinging strikeout.
Penn scored the game's first run on an RBI single for
Calvin Brown as Pokrovsky scored to take a 1-0 lead.
Dromboski hit a batter in the second, setting down back-to-back Harvard hitters to get out of the second unscathed.
Ozmer ripped a two-run double to left center field to score both Baker and Henseler as the Quakers surged ahead by three, 3-0.
In the third, Dromboski made it five consecutive Crimson set down after another 1-2-3 frame, setting up the Quakers' fourth headlined by Henseler's solo shot to go up 4-0.
Harvard began the fourth with a George Cooper single to center field and an error to put runners on first and second base. Dromboski went strikeout, walk, and a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.
The Crimson scored three runs on four hits in the fifth inning to trim the Quakers' lead down to 4-3.
Penn extended its slim lead in the seventh after
Nick O'Brien reached on an error and Pokrovsky scored to make it 5-3.
Henseler recorded his second homer of the day in the eighth inning, a solo shot to left, doubling the lead to 6-3 and added two more runs in the ninth on Brown's RBI single to right field and Henseler's RBI single to center as Penn had an 8-3 edge heading into the bottom of the ninth.
John Cerwinski started the ninth inning for the Quakers, allowing a one-out single before striking out the next two batters he faced to complete the twin bill sweep for Penn.
