PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania sprint football team cleaned up in the 2024 CSFL postseason awards announced by the conference on Monday morning, with
Cam Janock,
Michael Malone, and
Adrian Montemayor earning Player of the Year honors. In addition, nine Quakers earned a total of ten All-CSFL honors.
For the third straight season, senior Montemayor landed CSFL Special Teams Player of the Year to account for Penn's fourth consecutive year earning the honor. Montemayor is joined by senior Janock, who garnered CSFL Defensive Player of the Year, and freshman Malone, who grabbed CSFL Rookie of the Year.
Special Teams Player of the Year
Montemayor continued to show why he was one of the most dominant players on the gridiron after another solid campaign as the placekicker and punter. The senior went 3-for-4 on field goal attempts in 2024, converting on 22-of-23 extra-point kicks. Montemayor averaged 37.74 yards per punt, downing six punts inside the 20-yard line, with three going more than 50 yards.
Defensive Player of the Year
Janock was a force on the defensive end of the field this season, leading the Quaker offense with 9.5 tackles for a loss of 43 yards to go along with a team-high 5.5 sacks for 34 yards. The senior tallied 45 tackles, including 26 solo stops. Janock also recorded an interception and forced fumble this year.
Rookie of the Year
The future is bright for Malone, who led the Red and Blue's offense at quarterback in his freshman campaign. Malone completed 62-of-131 attempted passes in 2024, tallying 803 yards and six touchdowns. The first-year tacked on three touchdowns to his total off 179 rushing yards to cap off his season.
First Team
In addition to their major awards, Janock (defense) and Montemayor (offense and defense) earned First Team All-CSFL, while Malone (offense) landed Honorable Mention All-CSFL.
Joining the seniors on the First Team was linebacker
Jake Inserra, who led the Quakers in tackles with 49, including 30 solos, and defensive back
Josh Johnson, who tallied a team-high interception (3) and pass breakups (6), to go along with his 23 stops. Offensive lineman
Luke Pajovich rounded out Penn's presence on the First Team, protecting quarterback Malone. The Quakers' run game averaged 134.1 yards per game, including 179 for Malone on 64 carries.
Second Team
Linebacker
Matt McKillop had a solid season in 2024, tackling 9.5 opponents for a total of 37 yards, to go along with two sacks for 14 yards. The senior tallied a career-high 32 tackles, including 15 solo stops.
Charles Tauckus started all seven games on defense, racking up 27 tackles, four tackles for loss, and a sack.
Honorable Mention
Jake Wang evened out Quakers, who earned All-CSFL nods, picking up Honorable Mention. The senior started at wide receiver in six games, catching 14 receptions for 177 while bringing home two touchdowns.
