Penn landed the #6 overall seed in the national championship event, and as a result the Quakers receive a first-round bye in the 48-team tournament. In the second round, the Red and Blue will host UMass on Sunday at Rhodes Field, with kickoff scheduled for 5 p.m. The Minutemen topped the Aces 2-1 in New England on Thursday afternoon.
Penn had a stellar season, winning its third straight Ivy League regular-season title with a perfect 7-0-0 conference record, the first for the program since 1971. The Red and Blue then hosted the Ivy League Tournament as top seed this past weekend, falling to third-seeded Princeton in the final. The Quakers and Tigers (who travel to Akron for a first-round match on Thursday) are two of three Ivy League teams in the 48-team field, along with Cornell which hosts Fordham in a first-round match on Thursday.
Penn is making its 12th appearance in the NCAA Championship and its second in the last three years. Two years ago, the Quakers advanced to the second round before falling in overtime to eventual national champion Syracuse, 2-1.
The Quakers captured nine spots on the 2024 All-Ivy teams and three major awards led by
Leo Burney,
Jack-Ryan Jeremiah, and
Stas Korzeniowski who all were first-team All-Ivy. As for major awards, Burney landed Defensive Player of the Year, Korzeniowski garnered co-Offensive Player of the Year, and the coaching staff led by James C. Gentle Head Coach
Brian Gill won Coaching Staff of the Year.
