Gymnastics Opens Campaign With Third-Place Finish at Keystone Classic

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team opened their new season with a third-place finish at the Keystone Classic, hosting the quad meet Friday evening at The Palestra.
 
With 192.575 points, the Quakers were beat out by Penn State (194.725) and Pitt (193.125), but knocked off Temple (192.250).
 
VAULT | Penn 48.675
It was a solid first rotation for the Quakers, led by Kiersten Belkoff's score of 9.825. Isabel Song was right behind with a 9.775, while Sara Kenefick followed up with a score of 9.750. Marissa Lassiter placed fourth at 9.700, while Jordan Barrow—in her collegiate debut—tallied a 9.625 to take fifth.
 
BARS | Penn 48.575
Skyelar Kerico rebounded with Penn's top score on uneven bars with a 9.825, while Emma Davies placed second at 9.750 and Zara Gazdak in third (9.700). Sara Kenefick came in fourth (9.675) with Alisha Werlen in fifth (9.625) and freshman Sophia Paris rounding out the field with a 9.525.
 
BEAM | Penn 47.075
Campbell Marr led the way with a score of 9.675, while Werlen scored a 9.650 to stay closely behind. Olivia VanHorn (9.325) and Ana Kenefick (9.150) both made their debuts on the balance beam.
 
FLOOR | Penn 48.250
Penn capped off the night with a strong score on the floor exercise, paced by Emma Davies' 9.800. Belkoff scored a 9.750 to take second place, while Lassiter had a 9.650.
 
Quaker Notemeal
*Penn's score on vault (48.675) was its highest score on the apparatus to open a season in program history.
*The Quakers had a trio finish with 9.8's or above in Kiersten Belkoff (9.825) on vault, Skyelar Kerico on bars (9.825) and Emma Davies (9.800) on floor.
*Belkoff finished tied for second overall on vault (9.825), while Isabel Song took sixth (9.775).
*Kerico was tied for third overall on bars (9.825) with Davies placing 10th (9.750).
*Campbell Marr took sixth overall on beam (9.675) with Alisha Werlen finishing in a tie for seventh (9.650).
*A solid showing on floor put Davies in third place overall (9.800), while Belkoff was knotted up in a three-way tie for sixth at 9.750.

The Quakers head to our nation's capital on Jan. 14 to take on George Washington, Cornell, Temple and Yale at 1 p.m.
