How It Happened
It was Army's first half and there was really nothing Penn's defense could do to stop it. The Black Knights headed into the locker room up 28-0, gaining 349 yards of offense while holding the Quakers to just 34.
Â
Penn didn't get itself onto the scoreboard until the fourth quarter following
Ryan Horvath's second forced fumble of the night and the return for
Gavin Griswold.
With 7:34 to play in the final stanza, the Quakers' drive started at midfield as
Ty Scherer drove the ball down the field all the way to the Army 1. After three consecutive rushes failed to get over the goal line, Scherer completed a pass to
Sam Herzog on fourth-and-goal, a one-yard TD pass to trim the Army lead to 31-7.
Â
The Red and Blue's defense forced a three-and-out in the closing minutes of the contest, taking over with less than a minute to go.
Â
Penn got back into Army territory, but a sack for a loss of 16 yards ran out the clock as the Cadets emerged victorious.
Â
Up Next
Penn enters the bye week earning much-needed rest. The Quakers return to the gridiron on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. against St. Thomas Aquinas at Franklin Field.
