PHILADELPHIA – A moment of magic from junior
Isobel Glass proved to be enough as the University of Pennsylvania women's soccer team defeated Delaware in front of a raucous home crowd Sunday night at Penn Park, 1-0.
The win was the Quakers' second in three days and gives them their first 2-0-0 start since 2018.
Quaker Notemeal
*Penn is now 2-0-0 for the first time since 2018 and just the second time since 2015.
*Penn's head coach,
Dr. Krissy Turner, now has 299 wins as a collegiate head coach; she is 299-174-52 (.619 winning percentage) across a career that has seen her lead the programs at Lafayette (1995-97), Monmouth (1998-2021) and now Penn.
*Penn's last four wins have come via shutout, dating back to last October 3. In fact, the Quakers have shutouts in six of their last seven wins dating back to October 18, 2021.
*Senior goalkeeper
Laurence Gladu had three saves in pitching her second straight shutout and her ninth career clean sheet.
*Glass now has eight goals across three seasons, but this was her first match-winner.
*The assists on Glass' goal were credited to sophomore
Clare Robke—whose cross was headed in for the winner—and freshman
Mia Fuss. They were the first collegiate points for both.
*The defense was anchored by seniors
Adrienne Evans and
Paige Kenton, both of whom went the full 90 for the second time in as many matches.
*Penn was bolstered by the return of senior
Ginger Fontenot, a second-team All-Ivy pick last year who missed Friday's opener. She played the first half on Sunday evening.
*Penn was on the front foot throughout, outshooting Delaware 15-6 (6-4 in SOG) and forcing Blue Hen goalies Kyla Burns and Mia Reed to make a combined five saves.
*The Quakers also held a slight, 3-2 edge over Delaware in corner kicks.

How It Happened
Glass showed she would be a dangerous presence early, forcing Burns out of the cage to make a play just ahead of her boot. The other good chance in the opening 45 minutes came from Friday's goal scorer,
Lauren Teuschl, who fired a shot that was just out of Burns' reach but slightly off target.
It was still 0-0 at the break.
Delaware's best chance of the night came only a few minutes into the second half, the Blue Hens' Raychel Speicher driving into the goal area and ripping a left-footed shot that was deflected by a Penn defender's boot. Gladu remained composed, however, leaping and snaring the ball out of the air before it crossed the line.
Just as the match approached the hour mark, Glass struck. Fuss took the ball from the left side into the middle and fed Robke near the right corner of the goalie box. The sophomore swept a cross right to the six-yard line and Glass was there to re-direct it with her head into the upper left corner. Reed, who had come on for Burns at the half, was helpless to stop it.
Quotables
"What a great environment we had at Penn Park tonight! I am proud of our players for rising to the occasion and playing at a high level this early in the season. We have more work to do, but this was a solid opening weekend for us." –
Dr. Krissy Turner, Douglas N. Brush Head Coach of Women's Soccer
"Tonight was a full, 90-minute performance by the team. We were all in from the first whistle to the last and definitely built upon our performance from Friday. I am grateful I was able to help us close out the weekend with a win, and we are all excited to use the positive momentum for another big weekend ahead." –
