HANOVER, N.H. – The University of Pennsylvania women's tennis team fought a tough road match to end the 2023 season. The Quakers rallied to tie the match twice but ultimately fell 4-3 at Dartmouth on Sunday.
Eileen Wang and
Saige Roshkoff won their doubles match and Wang,
Iris Gallo, and
Maya Urata all won their singles matches. The Quakers closed out the season with an 11-10 overall and 1-6 in the Ivy League.
Dartmouth won the first double match as Chidimma Okpara and Ashley Hess defeated
Iris Gallo and
Maya Urata, 6-3.
Eileen Wang and Saige Roskhoff defeated Brooke Hess and Katie Weber, 6-2, to even the doubles results. With a 6-1 victory at #3 doubles, Emily Zhou and Lexie Dewire won the doubles point over
Claire Zhang and
Gavriella Smith.
The Big Green took a 2-0 lead as Dewire used a two-set victory to defeat Zhang at #6 singles. The Quakers took a 3-2 lead with singles wins at #3, #4, and #5. Gallo earned the first team point with a 6-2, and 6-0 victory over Zhou. Urata defeated Ujvala Jupalli, 6-4, 6-3, to tie the match at 2-2. Roshkoff won her opening set but Dartmouth regained the team lead as B. Hess won the second and third set to give the home team a 3-2 lead. Penn tied the match again as Wang rebounded from a first set loss to claim the second and third set putting the match level at 3-3. Okpara clinched the match point for the home team with a two-set victory over Smith at #1 doubles.
