QUAKER NOTEMEAL
* Henseler and Calvin Brown both had a pair of extra-base hits, the first occurrence(s) of a Quaker recording two or more such hits in a game this season.

* Henseler finished with four RBI, the first Quaker with more than two RBI in a game this season.

* Penn hit two triples in a game for the first time since May 1, 2021 at La Salle.

* One week after setting a career-high with 3.1 innings pitched, David Shoemaker eclipsed that mark with 3.2 innings Saturday, giving him seven scoreless innings in his first two appearances this season.

* Eli Trop picked up his first collegiate victory on the mound, recording all three outs in his inning of relief via strikeout, tying his career high set last April 29 against Yale (in three innings of work).

* Edward Sarti picked up his first collegiate save with a scoreless inning of work.

* Jackson Appel and Henseler each had two hits for the second straight day. The duo are a combined 8-for-17 this weekend after going just 3-for-25 in the season-opening series last weekend against South Carolina.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After going more than five innings without a baserunner Friday against Penn starter Owen Coady, the Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after a single, walk, an RBI groundout, and a 2-out RBI triple.

That lead held up until the top of the third, when the Penn offense provided Zaffiro some run support.

With one out, freshman Davis Baker hit a sinking, opposite-field line drive that fell just in front of the Cardinal left fielder and rolled all the way to the wall, putting him on third. Baker's middle infield counterpart Ryan Taylor later brought him home with a 2-out RBI single up the middle.

Appel followed with his first hit of the day, setting up a first and third situation for Henseler, who recorded his first big hit of the day with a double to the gap in left-center, plating Taylor and Appel, shooting Penn out in front, 3-2.

The one-run lead ballooned to four following a three-run fifth. Justin Carboni and Taylor started the inning with singles. Appel followed with a two-run double to right-center, and advanced to third on an error by the Lamar right fielder. Henseler followed with a sacrifice fly, scoring Appel.

That four-run lead was short-lived as Lamar put three on the board in the bottom of the frame, pulling back within a single run.

Penn put a runner in scoring position with no one out in the sixth and Lamar put two on with two out in the seventh, but neither side could get the run(s) across, with the score holding at 6-5 heading to the ninth.

Down to their final out, the Cardinals tied the game with an RBI single in the ninth, sending the game to extras.

With the bases empty and two out in the top of the 10th, Henseler launched a moonshot over the left field wall, putting Penn back in front.

In the bottom of the inning, Sarti yielded a pair of runners via an error and a walk, but closed out the Penn win with his second strikeout of the inning.
