WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – For the second straight season, the University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team stands on the peak of the mountaintop, claiming the 2023 Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) Championship Saturday night at Kaplan Arena.
The Quakers put forth a tremendous effort in the second session of the evening, which included a season-high team score on the floor exercise to win the title for the second consecutive year.
BEAM | Penn 48.775
Freshman
Skyelar Kerico had herself quite the opening routine for the Quakers on beam, scoring a 9.825 to lead her teammates.
Sara Kenefick notched a 9.775,
Alisha Werlen a 9.750 while
McCaleigh Marr tallied a score of 9.725 and
Kiersten Belkoff finished with a 9.700.
Campbell Marr rounded out the group with a 9.650.
FLOOR | Penn 49.075
The best rotation of the night was the floor exercise as four of Penn's six routines finished above a 9.8 for the night.
Emma Davies wowed the judges with her career-high score of 9.900 while
Marissa Lassiter finished the evening with a 9.875 and 9.800's for both
Ariyana Agarwala and
Alyssa Rosen.
Carly Oniki had a score of 9.700 and
Sara Kenefick scored an 8.925.
VAULT | Penn 48.525
Heading over to the vault, Kerico had her second team-high score of the evening with a 9.775 on the rotation while Agarwala and
Olivia VanHorn had scores of 9.700. Both
Campbell Marr and Belkoff tallied marks of 9.675 and Lassiter registered a 9.625.
BARS | Penn 48.550
Finally, on bars, the Quakers got the performance they were looking for out of
Kristen Kuhn who led the way with her score of 9.850. Oniki scored a 9.725 to finish second on the team, while Lassiter brought home a score of 9.700. Kerico had a 9.650, Kenefick a 9.625 and
McCaleigh Marr finished with a score of 9.150.
Quaker Notemeal
*The conference title is Penn's sixth overall in program history and the second during the GEC era. The Quakers previously won four ECAC titles in 1998, 2004, 2012 and 2013.

Skyelar Kerico finished in a three-way tie for second overall on vault (9.775).

Kristen Kuhn was second place on bars with her score of 9.850.
*Kerico also finished in a tie for third place on beam (9.825).

Emma Davies placed second on floor exercise (9.900) with
Marissa Lassiter sharing third place (9.875) with West Chester's McKenna Kissinger.
