PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team won the team title at the inaugural Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) Championship on Saturday evening. Penn won the title with a new team record with a total score of 196.950.
The Quakers broke their previous program record of 196.225, set last weekend at Maryland. It marks the highest score ever by an Ivy League program. Brown, which hosted the event, came in second (195.975). West Chester was third (195.250), while Yale was fourth (194.825).
Two Quakers had top results in their event, as
McCaleigh Marr had the top score on the day on the balance beam with a 9.950 and
Sara Kenefick had the highest score on the floor with a mark of 9.975.
VAULT | Penn 48.900
Penn started off the day with a team score of 48.900 on the vault.
Kiersten Belkoff had the team high 9.825 on the vault. All five members of the Red and Blue had scores of 9.700 or better. Following Belkoff was
Ariyana Agarwala,
Rose DeBarberie, and
Sydney Kraez, all of whom scored 9.775.
Connie Hsu rounded out the scorers for Penn on vault with a final score of 9.750.
BARS | Penn 49.325
Penn put itself in great position to claim the team title in this rotation, as all five scoring members posted a score of 9.800 or better. Penn's team score of 49.325 marked a program record previously set on March 12, 2017 at the Temple Quad (49.200). Marr recorded the highest score of the meet with a 9.925. Kraez and
Kristen Kuhn both scored identical 9.875 scores.
Sara Kenefick rounded out the scores with a 9.800.
BEAM | Penn 49.250
The Quakers achieved a meet best 49.250 on the beam as all five scorers posted a score of 9.800 of better. Marr scored a 9.950 on the beam, her third time scoring 9.9 or higher this season. Her 9.950 matched her season best and the program record, and Marr is now the only Quaker in program history with multiple scores in the top-four all-time on beam. Belkoff posted career-best score of 9.875,while Kenefick recorded a 9.850 and DeBarberie posted a 9.800.
FLOOR | Penn 49.475
Penn claimed the team title with as Kenefick was nearly perfect on the floor routine with a score of 9.975, recieving a perfect 10 from one of the judges. This ties the program record floor score for the first time in 21 years a gymnast has matches Anna Wilson's record from 2001. Hsu was second on the team with a 9.925 and
Emma Davies was third on the team with a 9.900.
Olivia VanHorn (9.825) and
Rebekah Lashley (9.875) rounded out the floor routine scores.
