Men's Squash Historic Season Yields Ivy Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Two First Teamers

PHILADELPHIA – Head Coach Gilly Lane earned Coach of the Year recognition, Nathan Kueh earned Rookie of the Year honors, and Andrew Douglas and Aly Abou Eleinen earned First Team All-Ivy for the fourth and third time, respectively, as announced by the conference office Wednesday morning.

Lane was a unanimous selection after leading Penn to its first Ivy League title since the 1973-74 season and first outright title since the 1968-69 season. The No. 1 team in the College Squash Association (CSA) poll since the pre-season, Penn's 16-0 regular season included wins over every other top 10 team in the most recent rankings.

Kueh was nearly perfect during the regular season, dropping a single five-game match as part of a 13-1 regular season. Kueh won eight matches 3-0, including five in a row to close out non-conference play. A valuable weapon playing almost anywhere in the line-up, Kueh won multiple matches out of the #4, #5, #6, and #8 spots.

Douglas becomes the seventh player in Quakers history to be named a four-time First-Team All-Ivy and the first since Lane from 2003-04 to 2006-07. This season, Douglas went 7-2 playing all nine matches out of the #1 spot, including an Ivy League victory over fellow First Team member Velavan Senthilkumar of Columbia.

Eleinen again joins Douglas on the First Team after both were selected at the conclusion of the 2019-20 season. Eleinen finished the regular season a perfect 15-0 splitting his time between the #1 and #2 spots. Eleinen recorded nine 3-0 victories with just a single match going as far as a fifth game. It was Eleinen's 3-1 win over Harvard's Marwan Tarek that cinched Penn's win over the Crimson and set Penn on its way to a historic regular season.

Lane will return to the sidelines and Kueh, Douglas, and Eleinen will return to action this Friday, February 18 against Philly foe Drexel in the Potter Cup quarterfinals. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., and the winner of that match will face the winner of No. 4 Yale and No. 5 Princeton at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. All Potter Cup matches will take place from the Penn Squash Center.
