Sprint Football Announces Four Captains for 2020 Season

PHILADELPHIA – Following the retirement of longtime head coach, Bill Wagner, there is a new era peaking over the horizon for the University of Pennsylvania sprint football program. William R. Wagner Head Coach, Jerry McConnell, is excited to announce a quartet of seniors – Aaron Johnson, Jack Schaible, Dan Smith, and Joshua Trybus – to captain the team in 2020.

The four bring a wealth of experience to the table and give an even split between offense and defense. McConnell has also chosen captains who are able to lead by example. Johnson is a two-time All-CSFL selection who led the Quakers with 38 solo tackles and four sacks in 2019. His fellow defensive captain, Trybus, led the CSFL with seven interceptions last season.

On offense, Schaible and Smith offer a distinct viewpoint of the game as two of the leaders on the Penn offensive line. The pair each started all seven games in 2019 and paved the way for the offense which paced the league in scoring offense (38.0 points per game), total offense (419.7 yards per game), rushing yards (231.1 yards per game) and rushing touchdowns (26).

These four have the privilege of being the first captains selected by new head coach, McConnell, during his first season at the helm. McConnell will look on them in the huddle to help deliver the program's third CSFL title since 2010 this upcoming season.
