PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team fell in a tight dual meet to Temple on Sunday afternoon, 193.675-193.325, despite a huge comeback on the final two rotations.
The freshmen led the way for the Quakers with reigning ECAC Rookie of the Week McCaleigh Marr finishing second on bars and beam while Rebekah Lashley finished second on floor.
VAULT | Penn 47.975, Temple 48.825
The top three on the vault all came from the Owls with Penn's Sydney Kraez taking fourth with a score of 9.750. She was one of three in the Red and Blue to score at least a 9.650 as Lashley (9.675) and Rose Hoffman (9.650) joined her in Penn's top three. Edie Noor Graber and Darby Nelson rounded out the scorers for the Quakers.
BARS | Penn 48.025, Temple 48.550
Marr's 9.850 was Penn's best score of the day to place second on the uneven bars, behind Temple's Jazmyn Estrella's 9.900. Tara Mills finished fifth with a 9.650, her best score of the season, while Kraez and Hoffman each scored a 9.550. Jordyn Mannino capped Penn's five with a 9.500.
BEAM | Penn 48.675, Temple 47.675
On Penn's third rotation, the Quakers made their move. On the beam, Penn enjoyed its best stretch of the day, combining for a team score of 48.675, just .025 off its best total for the season. Two Quakers finished in the 9.8 range, led by Marr's 9.850. In both of her meets this season, Marr hit at least a 9.800. Darby Nelson joined her with at least a 9.800 with a 9.825 to place third overall. Lauren Joost and Darcy Matsuda rounded out the lineup with a 9.725 and 9.675, respectively.
FLOOR | Penn 48.650, Temple 48.625
The Quakers finished with another big score on floor as all five hit at least a 9.675 with four earning better than a 9.700. Lashley finished second overall with a 9.775; Matsuda was fourth with a 9.750 and Mannino and Nelson each earned a 9.725 with Kellie Flavin wrapping the squad up with a 9.675.
