Men's Squash Finishes Regular Season With #11 Columbia, #13 Cornell

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's men's squash team (10-2, 4-1) wraps up the regular season with another packed weekend of squash. The Quakers will host #11 Columbia (6-7, 3-2) on Friday at 5 p.m. as they celebrate senior day, before traveling to Ithaca, New York for a match against #13 Cornell (5-7, 1-3) on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Previewing Penn
The Quakers continue to make a strong end-of-season push, with a dominant showing over the weekend against the now #7 Yale and #15 Brown. Now, the men will finish up the regular season with two opponents who are fighting for their Potter Cup lives in Columbia and Cornell.

The importance of final seeding will be paramount for the Quakers, who hope to maintain the #3 spot and who could face several past opponents in the first round. Strong performances from sophomore James Flynn and junior Andrew Douglas will need to be continued as the Quakers look to avenge last season's loss at Columbia.

Another potential milestone to watch this weekend will be if junior Yash Bhargava can record his 40th career victory. Bhargava would become just the second player on the Quakers with 40 wins, marking an important milestone in what has been a very successful career as a Quaker.

Friday's match will also mark a celebration of the careers of the two seniors on the roster, David Yacobucci and Wil Hagen. As a duo, they have combined for 76 individual match victories and have been a part of 44 team victories. Yacobucci is also looking to record his third consecutive season of 10 or more victories, as he sits at 9-2 with a career-high winning percentage of .818.

Previewing the Lions
The Lions finally got back to winning ways on February 2, snapping a five-match losing streak and beating #9 Dartmouth 8-1. Despite the struggles, the Lions put up strong results in the prior matches, nearly knocking off #5 Rochester and getting a point off #2 Trinity. With just two matches left before the postseason, the Lions are hoping to make a late Potter Cup push but will need to knock off the #3 Quakers and #4 Princeton Tigers to do it. Sophomores James Wyatt and Callan Hall hold top of the order spots for Columbia as they look to make a late push up the national rankings.

Previewing the Big Red
Following a successful trip out of the Ivy League, winning matches against #12 George Washington and #14 Franklin and Marshall, the Big Red couldn't carry the momentum into a big match against #9 Dartmouth, falling 6-3. Now, the Big Red face three of the top-five teams in the country to end the season, hoping to secure seeding for the Hoehn Cup. Freshman Veer Chotrani has been forced into a top role, playing #1 in the order but is rising the occasion. Sophomore Charles Culhane plays #2 as the young Big Red feature just three seniors.
