HOW IT HAPPENED
After nearly five minutes of scoreless action, Erin Barry broke the tie with a goal from the free position. After struggling on free-position chances against Rutgers on Wednesday, the Quakers absolutely excelled in that area against the Bulldogs. After Barry got things started, Penn eventually scored the first three goals of the game as senior Gabby Rosenzweig hit freshman Caitlin Cook with an assist to make it 2-0, less than a minute before Zoe Belodeau capitalized on a free-position attempt.
Over the final 17:51 of the first half, Yale and Penn traded the next five goals with the Bulldogs earning late goal with just 16 seconds on the clock before the half. Despite that, the Quakers entered the break up 5-3 thanks to a pair of goals from Michaela McMahon, her fourth and fifth of the season. Her first was a free-position opportunity and then the second came as she darted down the middle of the field for more than 40 yards with the ball before unleashing a shot into the corner of the net.
Outside of the halftime break, it was all Penn. Seniors Barry and Rosenzweig helped create some separation and give the Quakers a 7-3 lead just before freshman Kennon Moon recorded her first career goal with 17:50 left in the second half.
Fellow freshman Niki Miles scored eight minutes later and, along with more free-position goals from Barry and Belodeau, Penn eventually led 11-4 late in the second half. Yale added another goal, but Penn cruised to its first Ivy League win of the season, 11-5 in New Haven.
