Gymnastics Falls to Rutgers Sunday

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team found some more terrific individual routines, including Natalie Yang's 9.875 beam performance, but fell to Rutgers on Sunday at The Palestra, 193.575-190.875.

VAULT | Penn 47.725, Rutgers 48.700
Edie Noor Graber led off the Quakers with a 9.500, one of four in the Red and Blue to earn at least that score with Lauren Joost and reigning ECAC Rookie of the Week Rebekah Lashley each pulling in a 9.500. Sydney Kraez, who is off to a tremendous start to her sophomore season, scored the team's highest number on the vault with a 9.750. Darby Nelson rounded out the scorers with a 9.475 on Penn's opening rotation.

BARS | Penn 46.925, Rutgers 48.100
Kraez excelled once more on bars, leading the Quakers with a 9.750, tying for the meet victory with the Scarlet Knights' Shannon Farrell. Rose Hoffman was next with a 9.575, the sixth-best score on the event of the meet and Alex Kothe, a late addition to the lineup, placed seventh overall with a 9.325. Freshman Najah Curtis and Jordyn Mannino rounded out the scoring five with a 9.175 and 9.100, respectively. Mannino's suffered an early fall, but rebounded with an unblemished routine to still finish in the Quakers' top five.

BEAM | Penn 48.300, Rutgers 49.125
The Quakers entrusted sophomore Natalie Yang to anchor the beam lineup and she came through in excellent fashion. Yang capped Penn's best rotation of the day with a 9.875, matching her personal best and the fourth-best score in program history. Kraez and Darcy Matsuda each earned a 9.700 with Lashley and Darby Nelson rounding out the five with a 9.525 and 9.500, respectively. Sunday marked the second time in two meets that the Quakers' best event score came on beam.

FLOOR | Penn 47.925, Rutgers 47.650
On the floor, Lashley led the way with a 9.750, edging Mannino's 9.650 and Nelson's 9.575. Freshman Ali Karpousis stepped into the lineup and laid down a score worthy of Penn's scoring five, earning a 9.550 while Kellie Flavin rounded out the five with a 9.400.

Next Sunday, Feb. 2, Penn travels to Ithaca, N.Y. to take on Cornell.
