CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – The University of Pennsylvania women's squash team (4-2, 0-1) opened Ivy League play with a battle against the #1 team in the country, falling 8-1 to the Harvard Crimson on Saturday afternoon.
The Quakers entered the match against the Crimson looking to be the first to defeat Harvard since 2015. However, the Crimson struck hard early and maintained their success throughout the match. Despite a quick start by
Jamila Abou El Enin in her match, she couldn't maintain the pressure, falling 3-1 in a terrific table setter.
The best results came from the freshman duo of
Amina Abou El Enin and
Navmi Sharma. Both showed tremendous fight, with El Enin battling back from two games down and Sharma from one game down on two occasions. Abou El Enin turned in a spectacular finish completing the comeback for Penn's only point of the match, while Sharma lost a nail-biting fifth game 11-9.
Abou El Enin's victory continues her incredible start to the season. The freshman is now 6-0 and has provided tremendous stability to the back of the Quakers lineup.
