ITHACA, N.Y. - The University of Pennsylvania gymnastics team posted a score of 193.925, the second-best total of the season, to finish third at the six-team ECAC Championship on Saturday at Cornell.
Temple captured the crown with a final score of 194.750, edging Yale for the title; the Bulldogs finished with 194.400, ahead of Penn, who beat out Cornell (193.300), Brown (192.225) and William & Mary (192.025).
Allison Frommer earned the bars title with a 9.825, while Penn posted a score of 49.125 on beam, matching the program record.
FLOOR
Penn began on floor, something out of the ordinary for the Quakers, and put together a 48.000. Nicole Swirbalus posted the first score of the top five with a 9.700, jumping out to a nice start. Caroline Moore followed her with a 9.525 and then Sydney Kraez garnered the best score of the group with a 9.775. Jordyn Mannino and Darcy Matsuda rounded out Penn's five with a 9.475 and 9.525, respectively.
VAULT
The Quakers scored a tick better in their second rotation, totaling 48.250. Senior Valerie Rube posted the best score for the Red and Blue with a 9.750. Rose Hoffman also hit the 9.700 mark with Kraez (9.675) and Moore (9.600) not far behind. Freshman Ava Caravela closed out the top-five scores with a 9.525.
BARS
Frommer not only led Penn with a 9.825, but her routine also garnered the best of the meet to capture the ECAC Bars title. Hoffman scored a 9.775 for the fifth-best score of the meet. Kellie Flavin also hit 9.700 while Alex Kothe and Caroline Mitsch each posted a 9.625.
BEAM
Penn concluded the afternoon with an absolute masterpiece of a rotation. The Quakers combined to score a 49.125, the best total of the season on beam and it matched the program record, behind a 9.875 from both Matsuda and Swirbalus. Natalie Yang wasn't far behind with a 9.850; Lauren Joost (9.775) and Kraez (9.750) wrapped up a terrific performance. Only Temple's 49.225 topped Penn's score.
