Previewing Penn
The Quakers enjoyed an impressive regular season that saw them record ten wins for the 13th time in the last 14 years. Penn ended fourth in the Ivy League with a 4-3 record which bests last year's sixth place finish.
The Red and Blue had no problems under pressure this season as they went undefeated in 5-4 matches. 5-4 became a theme for Penn, beginning against No. 9 Drexel to defend its Pennsylvania State Classic title. The team went on to defeat No. 5 Stanford, No. 7 Columbia, No. 10 Brown, No. 11 Cornell, and No. 12 Virginia all by the score of 5-4.
In those matches, it has been
Jamila Tamer,
Lindsay Stanley, and
Clare Kearns who have clinched in the deciding match.
Leading the way this season for the Quakers has been defending CSA national champion,
Reeham Salah. She was named first-team all-Ivy for a fourth straight year and is a finalist for the prestigious Betty Richey Award. The winner of the Betty Richey Award will be announced on Sunday. The senior finished 13-1, including a 6-1 record during Ivy League play. Her only loss came to Harvard's Sabrina Sobhy who won this season's Ivy League Player of the Year.
Jessica Davis made her debut on the all-Ivy selection list this week. The junior held her own at the number two slot this season as she was the only other Quaker with double-digit wins (11-3). Davis went 5-2 during Ivy League play.
Penn will begin the Potter Cup against Trinity. The Quakers fell to the Bantams, 8-1, earlier this season at the Kline and Specter Squash Center.
