The Red and Blue struck first midway through the first quarter as
Nick Robinson found
Rory Starkey, Jr. from 7 yards out with 6:56 to play.
From there, Princeton's defense shut the Quakers down. Penn was 1-for-7 on fourth down conversion attempts, including 0-for-4 on fourth down inside the red zone.
The Tigers tied the game at 7-7 on the drive following Penn's touchdown. Princeton dialed up 11 plays to cover 92 yards, capping the drive with the first of two Collin Eaddy touchdowns – this one a 3-yarder with 2:30 left in the first quarter.
Penn's next play was a bad luck bounce. A Robinson pass intended for Starkey bounced around off three players before TJ Floyd scooped it up for an interception at the Penn 37. The Penn defense buckled down and denied the Tigers, with
Taheeb Sonekan stuffing Ryan Quigley on 4th-and-1 from the Penn 28.
The two sides would trade possessions from there, the Quakers coming up short on 4th-and-goal from the 6 yard line on an incomplete pass early in the second quarter. Princeton would take the lead with 0:50 remaining in the first half via a 28-yard field goal attempt from Tavish Rice.
Out of halftime, Princeton marched 80 yards on a 15-play drive that took 6:15 and was capped by a 2-yard Eaddy rush. The drive, which was delayed to start by an injury to Princeton's Trey Gray on the kickoff, firmly sent momentum Princeton's way.
The 10-point deficit had the Quakers looking for big plays, and the Red and Blue were stopped on the ensuing drive on 4th-and-2 from their own 33. Eight plays later, Rice connected on a 23-yard field goal and Princeton's lead was 20-7.
The Quakers would matriculate down the field to again get to 1st-and-goal, this time from the nine after a 19-yard completion to
Eric Markes on 4th-and-9. A pair of Brooks runs got the Quakers to the Princeton 5, but passes on third and fourth down fell incomplete and turned the ball over on downs.
A final long drive from Princeton sealed the result. The Tigers took 7:45 to go 92 yards over 15 plays, with a Ryan Quigley 2-yard rush capping the drive. A 2-point try was successful and Princeton led by three touchdowns.
