PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania's women's squash team (2-0, 0-0) enters the weekend fresh of their third straight Pennsylvania State Championship title and looks to continue the momentum. The Quakers host #4 Stanford (0-0) on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and travel to Washington, D.C. for a matchup against #15 George Washington (1-2) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Previewing Penn
After a season-opening 9-0 win over #20 Dickinson, in which no player dropped a game, the Quakers immediately followed up the victory with a 5-4 win at #7 Drexel. Four of the nine starters for the Red and Blue have been freshmen, yet they have all stepped up under pressure. Three freshman,
Ashley Manning,
Navmi Sharma and
Amina Abou El Enin enter the weekend undefeated, with Abou El Enin still yet to drop a game.
Captain
Julia Buchholz is also off to a strong start, having won both her opener against Dickinson and a thrilling five game match against Drexel, powering the comeback effort. Buchholz's next match victory will be her 25th in her collegiate career.
With the win over #7 Drexel, the Quakers moved up in the CSA National Rankings. The Quakers entered the match at #8 in the country, but now have overtaken Drexel for #7, and a win over Stanford could do even more to boost that ranking further. The Quakers defeated Stanford last season when the Cardinal had the very same ranking.
