HOW IT HAPPENED
From the jump, Caldwell looked up to the test in the final game of the season. The Cougars received the opening kickoff and took their first drive to the house with a three-yard rush giving the hosts a 7-0 lead.
Penn fielded an immediate response as McKever darted in from 11 yards out to even the score at 7-7. With Caldwell driving on its next possession, Evans forced the Penn defense's first turnover of the day with a fumble forced and recovered at midfield.
The Quakers took the turnover and exchanged it for seven points as McCaffrey broke the goal line with a three-yard end-around to the house.
After a few exchanges in possession, the Cougars regained the ball in Penn territory following a punt. Caldwell's Armani Bermudez split the tackles and rushed in from 33 yards out to even the score at 14-14.
With Caldwell driving once again late in the first half, Trybus climbed a ladder to snag an interception at midfield. Wagner pulled some trickery from his pocket as
Barry Klein took the end-around and connected with McCaffrey on a 41-yard pass to set up an Alex Schoney field goal; giving Penn a 17-14 lead at halftime.
Penn took the second half's opening drive all the way, with Jenkins extending the lead after a 24-yard touchdown pass to Murphy. The Cougars responded once again with a 50-yard touchdown pass to make it 24-21.
Caldwell continued to ask questions on offense, driving into the Penn red zone. However, Trybus came up big once again, picking off the Caldwell quarterback for the second time to maintain Penn's three-point lead.
The sides once again traded possession before the Quakers iced the game. With the ball at midfield, Jenkins broke between the tackles and up the field for a 59-yard rushing touchdown to give Penn a 31-21 lead with just over two minutes remaining.
The Penn defense shut down Caldwell on the following drive, with Nigh sacking the Caldwell quarterback on fourth and three to seal the win.
The Quakers close out their season with a 5-2 record and 3-1 in South Division play.
