Volleyball Goes Down to Yale in Palestra

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania volleyball team (3-10, 0-2 Ivy) fell against Yale (8-3, 2-0 Ivy) in The Palestra on Friday night, 3-0. Penn will be back in action on Saturday to wrap up the weekend against Brown.

Box Score

Inside the Numbers

* Raven Sulaimon recorded seven kills which gives her 130 on the season. That gives her a new career high as she finished with 128 her freshman season.

* Parker Jones finished without a double-double at The Palestra for the first time in four matches at home. The sophomore has four on the season and is just the second outside hitter since 2010 to have 10 or more double-doubles in the first 36 games of her career.

* Madison Goldstein led the team in kills with nine. It gives her 21 total in the first two Ivy League matches which leads the team.

* Caroline Furrer recorded 10 digs. It is the seventh straight match in which she's finished with double-digit digs.

* Penn was out-hit .061 to Yale's .287.

How it Happened

The Quakers didn't start out the way that they had hoped. Yale used a 7-1 run to go up 16-6 early in the first set and went on to take the opener 25-10.

A team with a lot of fight, Penn came back stronger in the second. The Red and Blue trailed by just two through the set's first ten points, 6-4. The Bulldogs went on a 6-1 run to take a 20-11 lead, but the Quakers went on a 6-1 run of their own to cut the deficit to five. Penn's comeback came up short as Yale took the second 25-19.

The Bulldogs used an 8-1 run in the third to go up 17-8, but once again, the Quakers didn't quit. Penn went on a 7-1 run led by Jones, Sulaimon, and Goldstein to cut the Yale lead to just three. The Bulldogs however, took five of the last six points to win the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
