SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Battling chilly conditions and a hostile crowd, Penn was unable to overcome a resilient Wofford squad, falling to the Terriers by an 8-6 mark. The Quakers trailed nearly the entire game before knotting the score in the seventh inning behind a deep home run by junior
Sean Phelan. However, Wofford responded in their final at-bats, hitting a homer in the seventh and adding an insurance run to start the eighth.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Wofford (4-5, 0-0 SoCon) pulled out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Penn (1-3, 0-0 Ivy) fought back in the second with a run of its own to get on the board. Junior catcher
Matt O'Neill made things simple, jacking his first home run of the year over the left-center fence. The major offensive push the Quakers put together came in the sixth frame, as senior OF
Daniel Halevy drove both Phelan (single) and O'Neill (walk) across home plate with his double down the left-field line. Junior
Matt Tola reversed the field just one at-bat later, singling just inside the right-field line to plate Halevy and set up Penn one run shy of the Terriers.
Meanwhile, senior LHP
Gabe Kleiman worked his way through five and one-third innings on the mound, allowing six runs while chalking up five strikeouts along the way. Freshman reliever
Cole Sichley took over in the sixth frame for two innings, surrendering a pair of runs before fellow freshman
Brendan Bean closed it out by getting the final two outs. The Wofford rotation featured starter Adam Scott for the first six innings, as he tossed 10 strikeouts to quell the Quakers before ceding the mound to eventual winner Garcia.
NEXT UP
The Quakers return to action early Saturday afternoon against Wofford at 2 p.m. before wrapping up the three-game series on Sunday.
