Hartford, Conn - The University of Pennsylvania women's squash team looked to build off of their 9-0 win over Brown last weekend and beat Trinity for the third year in a row. However, this time around it would be the Quakers who would fall as Penn lost 7-2 to No. 2 ranked Trinity on Saturday afternoon.
It should come as no surprise, but
Reeham Salah remained undefeated this season as she won 11-1, 11-8, 11-7 against Raneem Sharaf at the number one slot.
At number two, the Quakers suffered a heartbreaker as
Melissa Alves lost 13-11 in the fifth game, losing two match points in the process. Making her debut just last week, the senior had won her first two matches back in action since missing the first half of the season with a foot injury.
Alves showed resilience and adversity coming back from losing the opening two games including a 16-14 marathon in game two. The team captain won the next two games 11-6 to even up the match and put herself in a position to win. Unfortunately this time it was Trinity's Salma Alam El Din who came out on top 13-11 in the deciding game.
Marie Stephan got the final win for the Quakers as she won 11-7, 11-9, 11-6 after losing the opening game 11-8. Stephan has won her last three matches to improve her season record to 4-2.
The Red and Blue will get ten days off before they dive right into the rest of their Ivy Schedule. Penn has five matches remaining, all against Ivy opponents. It all begins Wednesday, January 31 at 7 P.M. at The Ringe against Princeton.
