CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - It was a good end to the season for the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team, as the Quakers capped off the year with a dominating 3-0 road victory over Harvard. Penn scored all of its goals in the second half of play en route to its second Ivy League win of the fall.
KEY MOMENTS
*Despite not breaking through in the goal category, the first half was just as dominating for Penn as the second half would prove to be. The Quakers went into the locker room with an 8-1 advantage in shots over the Crimson, and applied steady pressure to the Harvard goalkeeper throughout the opening 45 minutes, with seven of those shots on goal.
*
Dami Omitaomu began the assault on the Harvard defense, notching two shots in the opening two minutes.
Jerel Blades would follow that up with two shots of his own in the following stanzas, before Penn would ultimately net a goal in the 28th minute from
Jake Kohlbrenner before being called offsides.
*The opening moments of the second half began slowly for both sides, but Penn would quickly regain its control over the home team, peppering in shots about 15 minutes in.
*After freshman
Wes Maki had a great shot on goal that was blocked out of bounds for a corner kick, the Quakers would convert.
Joe Swenson took the kick from the left side and sent a ball to the near post, connecting with rookie
Alex Touche who sent the ball to the back of the net, giving Penn a 1-0 edge in the 63rd minute.
*Just minutes later, Kohlbrenner would reenter the game and make his presence felt immediately. Streaking down the right side of the field, Swenson placed a beautiful ball in front of goal for the rookie who finished past a defender and the Crimson keeper, making the score 2-0.
*The third and final goal for Penn came from Blades, who blasted a shot inside the six-yard box to the far post on an assist from Kohlbrenner in the 76th minute.
