PREVIEWING PENN
*Penn rides a two-game win streak into week seven's crucial matchup with Navy, most recently coasting to a 42-7 win over visiting Post Friday night. The Quakers posted 495 yards of total offense on the night - their second-highest total this season - behind three rushing touchdowns from
Jake Klaus and 204 yards and touchdown from
Eddie Jenkins on 10-of-15 passing.
Matt Gorman was a force yet again on the defensive side of the ball, registering eight tackles while
Connor Ashton picked off his second pass of the year to go along with seven stops.
*Jenkins continues to enjoy a very efficient first full season under center for the Quakers, leading the CSFL in passing average per game (215.8) and total offense (252.4) while commanding the top-rated passing offense in the league (224.2 yards/game). Also among league leaders are
Jake Klaus and
Matt Gorman; Klaus is third in the league in all-purpose yards per game (107.2), while Gorman is tops in the CSFL in tackles with 10.6 per game.
*Through six weeks this season, Jenkins and Navy quarterback Braydan Chmiel have the only two 300-yard passing performances in the CSFL. Jenkins' 335 yards through the air at Cornell are the most of any quarterback this year, while Chmiel threw for 301 at Post on October 14.
NEWS AND NOTES: NAVY
*Navy is fresh off a 49-14 victory over Cornell in week six, highlighted by quarterback Braydan Chmiel's 228 yards on 13-of-18 passing and five touchdowns. The Midshipmen raced out to a 35-0 lead to start the game and finished the day with 467 yards of total offense. Luke Coughlin made nine tackles - two for loss - and recorded one sack to secure CSFL Defensive Player of the Week honors.
*The Quakers and Midshipmen enter week seven's pivotal matchup perfect within the division, but have both dropped their respective matchups with Army West Point. Navy was toppled by the Black Knights at West Point in week four, 40-6.
*Navy features the second-ranked rushing defense in the league entering this week (54.5 yards/game), but will be up against arguably its toughest test of the season as Klaus and the Quakers boast the top rushing offense (177.6 yards/game).
*The Midshipmen rank in the top three in the CSFL in scoring offense (32.5 poins/game) and defense (14.2), as well as total offense (360.0 yards/game) and defense (196.3), trailing only Penn and Army West Point in those categories.
