MANSFIELD, Pa. - The University of Pennsylvania sprint football team opened 2016 on Saturday night with a 31-7 road victory over Mansfield at Karl Van Norman Field.

Inside the Numbers
It was an aerial attack that led the Penn offense, as reigning CSFL MVP Mike McCurdy tossed for 261 yards and two touchdowns. Andrew Sutton proved to be McCurdy's favorite option, recording six receptions for 131 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Jones caught the other McCurdy score, finishing the day with a pair of catches for 35 yards. Max Jones enjoyed a productive night on the ground, rushing for 94 yards on just 14 carries. Robert Diorio added a score on the ground.

Not to be outdone, the Quakers' defense was equally dominant on Saturday night. The Quakers showed a knack for creating turnovers, as they racked up four interceptions—to go along with three sacks and five tackles for loss. The defense even capped off the night with a 1-yard interception return for a touchdown by Andreas Wang. Diorio added a pair of interceptions, while Jack Hennigan snatched his first career pick.

How it Happened
The Quakers jumped all over Mansfield, as Diorio grabbed an interception on the game's first play from scrimmage. The offense followed suit, immediately marching down the field for a touchdown. McCurdy capped off the 3:36 drive with a nine-yard toss to Sutton. Penn added to its lead later in the first with a 29-yard field goal from Mario Del Cueto.

Penn took a 10-0 lead into halftime thanks to a dominant defensive effort in the opening 30 minutes. The Quakers' special teams also kept the Mountaineers off the scoreboard, blocking a 37-yard field goal with 1:25 remaining in the half.

Mansfield cut into the Quakers' lead early in the third, scoring their only touchdown of the game on a Hutchison 24-yard completion to D.J. McLean Jr. Penn quickly responded, however, with Max Jones returning the ensuing kick-off 74 yards to Mansfield's 17-yard line. McCurdy reaped the benefits on the very next play, tossing his second touchdown of the game to Marcus Jones.

The Quakers added to their lead late in the third quarter, as Diorio capped off a nine-play drive with a three-yard plunge into the end zone.

Penn put the finishing touches on the victory in the waning moments of the fourth, as Wang picked off a tipped pass and waltzed into the end zone from one yard out.
