PROVIDENCE, R.I. – For just the fourth time this season, the University of Pennsylvania volleyball team was unable to secure a set -- falling 3-0 (18-25, 18-25, 23-25) to Brown on Saturday night. The Quakers fall to 9-10 on the season and 3-4 in the Ivy League.
For the second consecutive night it was seniors Alexis Genske and Michellie McDinald-O’Brien pacing the Quakers on offense. The duo each notched 11 kills, with Genske chipping in eight digs. Classmate Alex Caldwell was Penn’s most efficient contributor, hitting a team-high .263 with seven kills.
Another senior, Ronnie Bither, recorded her fourth consecutive double-double in the form of 29 assists and 16 digs. Freshman Courtney Quinn put forth four kills and 10 digs.
For Brown, junior Payton Smith registered 11 kills with a match-high .611 hitting percentage. Sabrina Stillwell continued her impressive freshman season, posting 10 kills in the victory. Defensively, the Bears had four players total double digits in digs. As a team, Brown hit .314.
Penn will be back in action next weekend, hosting Princeton on Saturday night. First serve at The Palestra is scheduled for 6 p.m.
