PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Big 5 has announced its weekly awards in men's basketball, and the University of Pennsylvania's sophomore guard
Sam Brown was named the Big 5 Men's Player of the Week.
This is Brown's first career Big 5 weekly honor; he was the Ivy League Rookie of the Week three times last season as a freshman.
Brown scored a career-high 30 points in Penn's 93-78 win over Columbia on Saturday at The Palestra; his previous high was 26, set last year. The sophomore went 8-of-10 on three-point shots, which ties him with five others for second-most in a game by a Penn player. Of that group, Brown is one of just three to do it in only 10 attempts. He shot 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in both halves and finished 9-of-12 from the field overall while also going 4-of-5 at the foul line. Brown—who is now averaging 19.0 points per game in ivy play—also had three rebounds, two assists (without a turnover) and two steals.
Penn (6-11, 2-2 Ivy League)—which has won its last two games—is home for two more Ivy League games this weekend, hosting Brown at The Palestra on Friday at 7 p.m. and Ivy-leading Yale on Saturday at 6 p.m.
